PHOTOSCENE: Buhari inaugurates committee on minimum wage

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday inaugurated the committee on Tripartite National Minimum Wage at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.

With the inauguration of the committee, Nigerian workers may soon have their persistent demand for improved minimum wage addressed.
The committee has the mandate to negotiate a new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers, and it will be headed by Ms. Ama People.
President Buhari inaugurated the 30-member committee inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He had earlier last Thursday sanctioned the appointment of the 30-member tripartite National Minimum Wage Committee saddled with the negotiation of a new national minimum wage.

Members of the committee were drawn from persons from the public sector, (federal and state governments) and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA).
There are also persons from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) as members of the committee.
Buhari at the venue of the inauguration finally reacted to the resignation of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President sympathised with the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who joined top government officials to witness the event.
While exchanging greetings with Odigie-Oyegun, Buahri told him, “Accept my sympathy for losing a senior member of your party.”
Although he did not mention a name, it was obvious that the President was referring to Atiku who was one of those who contested the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2015 general elections and lost to Buhari.
